HI, I’m Diana Stasko, owner of Better Living Through Sewing. Whether you’re a new to sewing or an experienced sewer, you’re bound to learn something new in my workshops and private lessons, taught from my private sewing studio in Oakland, California. My classes are based on good technique and an understanding and love of fabric. My goal is to make sewing an accessible and fun means of expression for everyone, whether you want to learn to make a garment from a pattern, alter and repair your own clothing, or make a truly creative costume! Many Better Living Through Sewing students go on to start their own businesses, train as fashion designers or costumers, or make their own clothing and accessories.
You can take private or small group lessons in topics ranging from basic machine use to clothing alterations to working with commercial patterns. Class sizes are small, less than 4 people, so you get individualized attention! For a list of upcoming classes, click here…

About the Instructor
I have been the sole proprietor of Better Living Through Sewing since 2005. I have sewn since the age of 9, when I made outfits for my Barbies and other dolls. Since then I have worked in various areas of fashion and costuming, including theatrical and bellydance costuming, samplemaking for fashion designers and conceptual craft for magazines. I’m a Bay Area native and have taught private and small group sewing lessons here for 13 years.
“Diana seemed very knowledgeable and experienced. She taught us how to do things carefully and thoroughly, as well as useful shortcuts. As a result, I feel much more comfortable using my sewing machine and completing a project on my own.”
